Now that I crushed a few deadlines (with a few more remaining)...I can FINALLY release the "CAUGHT IN A MOSH" art print! Expertly printed by the homies - VG Kids! This is based on the pinup @z2comics commissioned me to do for their excellent #graphicnovel @ANTHRAX #AMONGTHELIVING! And now I was given permission to release the art as a #limitededition screenprint!!!
Just like everyone else my age (I'm now 103 and loving it) I grew up on ANTHRAX! And "AMONG THE LIVING" was the first album of theirs I heard. I remember dubbing the cassette from my friend Jason Denzer (I was poor) & listening to it nonstop! #IAMTHELAW" got all of us kids buying #JudgeDredd comics! I didn't know too much about #StephenKing until I heard the title track! And what the heck is "MOSHING"?!
My friends and I were so impressionable at that age - we copied everything we saw in the metal magazines. The jean (or leather) jackets, the stupid studded bracelets, & the flipped up baseball hats with "ANTHRAX" or some other band's name written on it with a sharpie. Anything labeled "THRASH" we consumed as we desperately tried to grow out our hair and prayed daily for puberty to hit!
The album's cover art is so iconic! I, and probably everyone else, wanted to recreate it. But Z2 already had a few killer versions & really didn't need another. (I'll post that sketch later, if you wanna see it.) So I thought back on my youth & moshing at concerts. I chose to illustrate their song "CAUGHT IN A MOSH" & put into it what it felt like being a young kid in 'caught a mosh' pit. But with #skeletons. (Because skeletons make everything better!)
